Star Light Sizes: All star lights are hand made and some slight variations have to be expected. Our quality control efforts with our artists in Mexico have paid off and produced consistent results. We decided to re-measure all lamps and give you now more accurate sizing measurements. In the past we've shipped stars that were bigger than what we listed. I hope this will make it easier to find the right size star lights.

Moravian Star History
The Moravian star originated in Saxony, Germany, in the two towns of Niesky and Kleinwalka in the 1830s. The stars were used as craft projects to help demonstrate geometry lessons to young boys attending Moravian school. The stars were quickly adopted by the Moravian Church as a symbol of the birth of Jesus and represented the star of Bethlehem. Traditionally, the star is hung the first Sunday of Advent and remains up until Epiphany, January 6, or the time of the coming of the Magi. A star as part of the symbolism of Christmas must be as old as the festival itself since the Star of Bethlehem figures so prominently in the nativity story.

The Moravian Star is also called the Advent Star because the star is hung in the church beginning with the first Sunday in Advent. Some have called it the Herrnhut Star because for a long time these stars were exclusively manufactured in Herrnhut, Germany.

These days there are many Moravian Star designs made all over the worls. Local traditions and artists talents have produced a wide range of  star designs made of materials such as paper, metal and glass. Moravian Star Lamps and Lanterns made out of tin and glass are especially popular as home decor items through out the year not just during Christmas.
